being puerto rican is just like time to watch the consequences of amerikan imperialism unfold into yet another crime against humanity lmao im so sick over fiona footage
im very fortunate to be in the diaspora with family and friends on the island who are currently safe and doing okay but this isnt the case for everyone
obviously the situation’s still unfolding but as of now here are two orgs on the island you can donate to via paypal
for anybody who’s unaware hurricane fiona is currently hammering puerto rico and the power grid has already totally failed the entire island which comes as a surprise to no one after the US installed board that controls puerto rico worked to privatize the electrical grid and put it in the hands of an amerikan/canadian corporation called LUMA last year (you may have heard of the continued protests against LUMA which has done nothing but fail, cheat, and scheme against the people of pr since day 1 and initially didnt even bother hiring a workforce that spoke spanish lmao)
whatever you do please try to avoid giving any money to giant amerikan “nonprofits” and NGOS (ex red cross) once they start asking bc virtually none of that $ ever goes back to our people - better to give to individuals asking on here/twitter than any big name corporate entity
i’m not sure if there’s already a post going around because i haven’t seen one, so i’ll make my own. puerto rico was just hit with hurricane fiona and the harm that this is bringing the island is huge — it may not seem like a big disaster to many, but puerto rico cannot handle another hurricane as they have not recovered fully from hurricane maria just yet.
people are losing their homes, they don’t have electricity, no water, etc. i’m linking some sources you can donate to to help out, if you’re able to. if you can’t, a reblog counts for so much too, as it may show up in the dashboard of someone who can donate. DO NOT donate to red cross or government organizations. these are the ppals of each organization I recommend donating to!!
